What it is about

A search for monochromatic X-ray emission from dark matter decay in the halo of the Large Magellanic Cloud, using eROSITA-DE DR1 data over 1–9 keV. We consider two candidates, sterile neutrinos and axion-like particles. No evidence for a dark matter line is found, so we set lower limits on the dark matter lifetime, constraining the active–sterile mixing angle and the ALP–photon coupling for masses of 2–18 keV. The bounds are strongest below 5 keV.

Upper limit on the axion–photon coupling from the Large Magellanic Cloud using eROSITA-DE DR1 (purple), over the previously excluded region (grey).
